A specialist practice at the intersection of commerce, energy, and cross-border law. Founded in Lagos. Built for the world.
A.L.A.L. Balogun LP is a Lagos-based specialist law firm advising clients on commercial litigation, energy and resources, cross-border transactions, and related matters. The firm brings together Nigerian, New York, and England & Wales qualifications under one roof, enabling the handling of complex, multi-jurisdictional mandates entirely in-house.
The firm's practice is grounded in the conviction that the African commercial market demands counsel of the highest calibre: technically precise, internationally conversant, and deeply attuned to the domestic landscape. We act for corporates, financial institutions, energy companies, and high-net-worth individuals navigating consequential matters.
From its inception, A.L.A.L. Balogun LP is committed to the development of the profession through structured mentorship of newly-called lawyers and continuing legal education for the bar.
The firm is named in memory of Justice Abudu Lamidi Afolabi Leigh Balogun OFR (Rtd) (Decd), Justice of the High Court of Lagos State from 1976, recipient of the Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic, and widely regarded as one of the most knowledgeable trial judges to have served on the Nigerian bench. As a trial judge across 17 years and three decades on the Lagos High Court bench, Justice Balogun earned an unquestioned reputation for fairness, rigour, and what the Supreme Court of Nigeria itself described as a "laudable aspiration of perfection." He retired from the bench in 1993. The firm is founded in his name, and in his memory.
The firm runs structured 3 to 6 month attachments for newly-called lawyers, with a defined curriculum, weekly training sessions, and formal mentorship. A.L.A.L. Balogun LP is equally committed to continuing legal education for working practitioners, with a programme of seminars covering energy law, commercial litigation, arbitration, and entertainment law.
